PESHAWAR - Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Caretaker Minister for Information, Education and Social Welfare Musarrat Qadeem has said though holding of free, fair and impartial elections is the mandate of caretaker set-up but she would leave no stone unturned for the betterment of subordinate departments within its short tenure.
This she said while attending a presentation on Elementary and Secondary Education at Peshawar on Tuesday.
Secretary Elementary and Secondary Education Muhammad Humayun Khan while briefing the Minister informed that there were 27,475 schools in the province where 3.87 million students were getting education.
He said that literacy rate in the province was 50 per which would be enhanced upto 80 per cent till 2015 under education sector plan.
She was further informed that “Sturey Da Pakhtunkhwa and Rokhana Pakhtunkhwa” Programmes had been launched in the province for promotion of education besides establishing independent data units at district levels for increasing the enrolment of students and discourage absenteeism of teachers in the schools.
He said the government also introduced various training programmes for the capacity building of teachers in the PITE.
She was further told that the union councils where government schools were not available, the children of the said union councils would be given free education on government expenses in private educational institutions.
The minister maintained that special focus on education sector particularly female education was need of the hour, as without it we could not get a honourable place in the comity of nations.
She expressed her satisfaction over the steps taken by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government for promotion of education.
She said that a remarkable work had been done to promote education in the province as compared to other provinces of the country. She, however, stressed that we should have to spend much more on education sector for bright future of the country as well as new generation.
Terming the training and important component of education, she stressed for giving proper training to our teachers.
