ISLAMABAD - The Pakistan Railways is striving hard to overcome its deficit as more trains would shortly be restored on several sections once the locomotives are rehabilitated. The government had approved project “Special Repair of 150 running locomotives” under Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) and the Railways was trying to overcome a shortage of locomotives so that more passenger and freight trains could be operated, an official told APP Tuesday.

He said purchase of new locomotives was necessary for the revival of Pakistan Railways, however, the ministry of railways was struggling to make it ‘profit earning’ organization. The official said that Pakistan Railways was on its way of improvement and with support of the government and private sector it would be put on a track to success. He said the organization was planning to launch more projects in line with the policy of public-private partnership and few sections would soon be privatized.
