LAHORE –The government has arranged Rs89 billion for fuel supply to the power sector as up to 14-hour loadshedding continue to add to public woes.
According to sources, the amount will be provided to PSO and gas companies for fuel supply to thermal power plants which had been closed for the past month.
The sources said gas will be supplied to six power plants which would contribute around 200MW to the national grid. Gepco and Hubco will be given 3600 tonnes per day extra fuel to add 800MW to the system, they said, adding the outflow of water would be enhanced for the Terbella and Mangla dams to contribute 400MW more from the hydel generation. Furthermore, loadshedding duration has crossed 12 hours in rural areas while it touches 14 hours in rural limits of the country.
