SECP, CDC organise investor awareness seminars
ISLAMABAD (INP): Recognising that investor education is crucial for sustainable growth of the financial markets, ensuring investor protection and bolstering confidence in the markets, the SECP, in collaboration with Central Depository Company (CDC), has organised investor awareness seminars in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Similar investor awareness seminars have also been organised by the CDC in Karachi, Hyderabad, Multan, Faisalabad, Lahore and Gujranwala, where the SECP also made its contribution. The timing of these seminars is particularly important in the context of current regulatory initiatives where subscription to the CDC Access, SMS and email alerts have been made mandatory by the SECP.
The seminars were marketed to the existing investors, mainly involved in active trading of capital market securities. There were Q&A sessions at all seminars, which were handled by the SECP and CDC executives.
The SECP’s director, Market Development and Investor Education Department, Naseeruddin Humayun, made his presentation on the SECP’s service desk and the forthcoming rolling out of investor education plan. He said that the SECP’s service desk is available as a single point of contact for the outside world for any issues that need resolution on the part of the SECP with respect to brokers, agents, self-regulatory organizations, listed companies, specialised companies, corporatisation and compliance, insurance and e-Services.
Lafarge Pakistan donations for families in Tharparkar
Lahore (Staff Reporter): The Employees of Lafarge Pakistan enthusiastically collected donations to reach out and help the drought affected children and families in Tharparkar, Sindh. Lafarge Pakistan matched the employee contributions and a cheque of Pak Rupees Five Hundred Thousand was presented to Edhi Foundation recently at Lafarge Pakistan Head Office in Islamabad. The money will be utilized by Edhi Foundation to fulfill basic needs of the drought affected children and families in Tharparkar such as dry rations including milk for children, sugar, oil, wheat and water.

ICCI, AIOU to promote
academia-industry linkages
islamabad(online): A delegation of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry led by its Acting President Khalid Chaudhry visited Allama Iqbal Open University to discuss ways and means for promoting academia-industry linkages. They also congratulated Prof Dr Ali Asghar Chishti for assuming the charge as the Vice Chancellor of AIOU. Prof Dr Ali Asghar Chishti, Vice Chancellor, Allama Iqbal Open University briefed the delegation about ongoing and future programmes of AIOU. He said AIOU is the largest distance learning university in the world as it is providing education to more than 1.4 million students and 54 percent of its students are female.
He said to provide business education, AIOU is running four programmes including Commonwealth International MBA. He said AIOU is planning to launch a dedicated TV channel for providing education.
Speaking at the occasion, Khalid Chaudhry, Acting President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry said ICCI has signed MoUs with various universities and would like to collaborate with AIOU as well for promoting academia-industry linkages as it is the best approach to achieve the fast track economic development. He lauded the services of AIOU in providing education to the youth of the country and assured that local business community will cooperate with it for promotion of quality education.
Turks review LWMC under
construction waste disposal site
lahore (Staff Reporter): Lahore is going to have the credit of hosting Pakistan’s first scientifically designed waste disposal facility, perhaps in the mid of this year, as its construction work at Lakhodair is rapidly in process which will be completed in September this year. This was stated by Musa Kasirga, a Turkish landfill engineer, while visiting Lahore Waste Management Company’s under construction disposal site at Lahore. A three-member delegation comprising of Fatih Hosoglu, Corporate Project Supervisor and Aydin Baran, Supervisor at Istanbul Landfill site has expressed satisfaction over the pace and quality of work being done by NESPAK and world’s one of the leading and best Turkish company CEVKA.
LWMC‘s Lahore Sanitary Landfill Project (LSLP)’ on completion will help LWMC resolving disposal of more than 2000 tons of waste on daily basis in the metropolis and according to experts it would environmentally cause a very positive and healthy impact in Lahore.
Experts also met LWMC Managing Director Waseem Ajmal Chaudhary, General Manager Operations Khalid Majeed and LSLP incharge Colonel Tahir Maqbool and shared their observations and suggestions regarding ongoing construction of Lahore Sanitary Landfill. According to LWMC spokesperson, Turkish experts will also pay visit in May and will share management plans with company administration regarding rehabilitation of Mehmood Booti disposal site and operationalization of sanitary landfill facility. ‘Visit of experts of Official consultants of LWMC will end on March 27, 2014, today’ he further said.
