Polio case surfaces in Shikarpur

SHIKARPUR - A polio case has been confirmed in a five-year-old boy in village Hasilpur Tehsil Khanpur, district Shikarpur on Saturday.
The test was conducted by National Institute of Health (NIH) Islamabad.
According to details, Saleem Ahmed, 5, resident of village Hasilpur, district Shikarpur suspected to have a polio virus. District Health Officer Shikarpur collected samples of the boy and sent to NIH for examination some 20 days back. The DHO received a report which confirmed that the boy was affected with polio virus.
Shikarpur DHO Imtiaz Ahmed Farooqi told this correspondent that polio teams administered polio vaccine in the village. The boy had also been administered polio vaccine multiple times and they would also launch a campaign across the district from April 6-8 due to surfacing of a polio case in the district. A team was also constituted to know reasons about the polio case. The child would be inspected by a specialist doctor.
ADHO Shikarpur, Qazi Khurshed also confirmed the polio case, saying they are trying to ascertain that despite administering polio vaccine how it is possible. Further investigation is underway by the district health administration till this story was filed.
Meanwhile, three dacoits were killed and two police constables received serious bullet injuries during an encounter with the police. Five women were also recovered by the police the other day.
According to reports, the Shikarpur district police along with a large contingent of police called from Jacobabad and Ghotki districts jointly raided the Katcha area of Ghotki forest in search of Fazila Sarki who was kidnapped from Garhi Sarki district, Jacobabad, nine years ago. During the search, the encounter took place between the armed criminals and the police. Three outlaws identified as Abdul Haq, Sanwal and Suhino were killed. Three police constables belonging to Ghota and Sadhayo tribes, whose names were not ascertained, sustained serious bullet injuries. However, Shikarpur police succeeded in recovering five women from the clutches of the kidnappers.
The recovered women were brought to Shikarpur under the police security. The recovered women Fazila Sarki was not identified by her parents. The kidnapped women were in Shikarpur police custody for their identification. The injured police constables were referred to Sukkur Civil Hospital for treatment. According to Shikarpur police, the dacoits killed during the encounter were wanted in many heinous crimes in various districts. Moreover, a youth died when an electric pole fell on him in village Mir Muhammad Marfani within the jurisdictions of Garhi Yasin Police Station, some 15 kilometers from here, the other day.
According to reports, an electric pole fell down over a youth namely Sheer M Marfani, 23. The incident occurred when he was passing near the electric pole outside his village. He received severe injuries. He succumbed to wounds on the way to Garhi Yasin Hospital.
