3 cops dead in Haripur ambush

HARIPUR (Online) - At least three police personnel were killed while two others sustained serious injuries in an attack on their mobile van in suburb area of Haripur. Sources informed Online that the militants attacked a police mobile van carrying four foreign women who were arrested for their link with militants some four days ago. The incident happened in Malikyar area of Haripur. The militants used heavy weapons in the attack. In retaliatory action of police, a terrorist was killed while another managed to flee from the scene. The sources said the militants wanted to get the prisoners free and help them escape. The injured policemen were rushed to nearby hospital where their condition is stated to be critical. The security forces shifted the arrested women to some unknown location. The deceased police personnel were identified as constable Imran, Azmat and Rasheed. District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Hussain and DSP Mahmood Khan reached the spot and cordoned off the entire area besides launching search operation, the sources added. Meanwhile, a man was killed while two others suffered injuries in a hand grenade attack on a house in Awanabad area of Dera Ismail Khan on Tuesday, police said. According to police sources, Zafar Abbas was sitting in his house along with two other men when some unknown men hurled a hand grenade at the house. As a result, Zafar was killed and two others injured. The injured were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital. The blast damaged a part of the house while others houses were also partially damaged. Police registered cases against unknown assailants and started investigation.
