A repentant PCB's new resolve

ISLAMABAD It seems as if the top brass of PCB has acknowledged its past mistakes, and finally taken a decision in the right direction. It does not matter, whether the decision has been taken under the pressure of National Assemblys Standing Committee on Sports or not, but one has to admit, anyhow, the things would now improve definitely. The Asia Cup and the following tour of England will be a test case for Shahid Afridis abilities as a skipper. The selectors have made the right choice by appointing Afridi, as captain for all formats of the game. However, it now totally relies upon him to prove his mettle as the captain of Pakistan cricket team. Nonetheless, it is suggestive for him that he learns from his past mistakes to prove his selection as a right choice. Subsequently, the decision to recall Shoaib Akhtar, Younus Khan and Shoaib Malik will give a bumper boost in strengthening both the batting line-up and bowling attack. Shoaib Akhtar, despite all his off and on appearance in the field, is still a world class bowler and can play a major role in the England series, where the wickets are best suited to fast bowlers. The inclusion of Younus Khan and Shoaib Malik will strengthen the Pakistan middle order, which looks fragile due to non availability of consistent and reliable batsmen. Umer Akmal is a good player, but he lacks the patience, which is a must for a good batsman especially in the test format of the game. In the similar fashion, the inclusion of Muhammad Yousaf in the England tour could bring a huge difference for the team. His world class experience seems to be imperative, especially at this juncture, when Pakistan Cricket Team is getting through a crises in terms of availability of veteran players in the side. During the recent past, our team has played many a matches but they were mostly of the limited overs game, while playing the game in its test format requires different sort of temperament, and Muhammad Yousaf best suits for it as is revealed by the statistics. Instead of using Muhammad Hafiz and Fawad Alam, time and again, it is the time to bring in some fresh faces in the team. PCB Chairman and Shahid Afridi would have to persuade Yousuf to review his decision of retirement, because the nation and team alike need him. This is the time for him, no doubt, to pay back his country, which has given him so much fame. The team looks balanced now, and its up to the players that they give the best they can to improve the overall performance of the team. Afridi has the greater responsibility on his shoulders, as a captain, that he does his utmost to keep the team unified in order to get the optimal results. Our team is fully capable of beating the worlds best sides at any grounds they play. The thing, which this team requires is the fighting spirit and confidence to prove that they are one of the best teams of the world.
