LAHORE - The Lahore High Court on Wednesday ordered the DPO Sialkot to produce Daewoo hostess Raheela, rape victim, along with other family members who have allegedly been 'detained by police to conceal their negligence in arresting actual culprits involved in the crime. Justice Iftikhar Hussain Chaudhry gave this order to the DPO, who had appeared before the court on the habeas petition filed by Nabeela, sister of Raheela. The DPO showed ignorance about the abduction of the rape victim and her family allegedly by the police. However, he assured the court of full efforts for their recovery if the same was found true. The court asked the DPO to recover the two girls and produce them in the court on June 1, but the DPO answered that on June 1 he has to go to Islamabad to submit report before the standing committee of Senate about the girls kidnap. So, on June 2 he would submit report about the efforts for the girls and her mothers recovery or would produce them in the court. The petitioners counsel submitted that police had arrested two accused in the rape case. However, during an identification parade they were not found to be the same culprits. Petitioner Nabeela said that police for hiding its negligence had detained her sister, mother and brother-in-law, and had been exerting pressure on them to force rape victim girl to change her statement. Earlier, in February LHC had taken suo motu notice against kidnapping and rape of a road hostess of Daewoo Bus Service, but the case was disposed of after police told accused namely Sarfraz Hussain and Irshad Bhatti had been arrested and sent to central jail Sialkot. According to details, the hostess of Daewoo was kidnapped and later raped at mid night on Febraury 6 when she left Daewoo Bus Service terminal Sialkot for her house along with driver and a gunman of the company. The accused person(s) took the girl in a house near Sialkot City and sexually assaulted her and in early morning threw her on the road side. PPLA strike camp Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association (PPLA) held a strike camp in front of the Lahore Press Club on Wednesday in favour of their demands. They demanded of the government to announce time scale immediately and also demanded the one step promotion. Lecturers and professors chanted slogans against government and warned that if their demands were not accepted they would come on roads to protest. They were of the view that PHD and MPhil allowance would be given without any discrimination. They also said management cadre should be ended for the teachers. Participants were carrying placards and banners inscribed with the slogans in favour of their demands.
