RAWALPINDI The Federal Investigation Agency Wednesday submitted in ATC a supplementary challan against five accused in the Benazir assassination case and held Baitullah Mehsud as the principal accused who not only prepared the conspiracy but also arranged for its execution. FIA submitted the challan in the court of Judge Malik M Akram Awan who is conducting in-camera trial of five accused including Rafaqat, Hasnain Gul, Aitezaz Shah, Abdur Rasheed and Sher Zaman at Adiala Jail. After submission of the supplementary challan, the judge adjourned the proceedings till June 12 when the five accused would be indicted. The sources said that in the supplementary challan, FIA stated that according to the statements of the accused and evidences, it was Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsud who planned Benazirs assassination while five men namely Aitizaz Shah, Sher Zaman, Abdul Rasheed, Rafaqat Hussain and Hasnain Gul, who are under custody, had been designated as real accused. The FIA report links the suicide bomber with these arrested men, saying that he (the bomber) stayed at the house of Hasnain for two days. However, the report says that FIA investigations are still underway to ascertain the negligence of police officials and after completing the investigation the report in this regard would be submitted in the court.
