ISLAMABAD Scores of the Parliamentarians including sitting ministers have occupied the lobbies, lift rooms as well as the service rooms of the different blocks of the Parliament Lodges for their personal use despite the fact these are specified for the general use, TheNation has learnt reliably. A list of senators and MNAs hailing from the treasury as well as opposition benches, who have illegally occupied these areas, is exclusively available with TheNation. It may be mentioned that they have occupied the areas despite of the fact that all of them have been allotted separate luxurious lodges. Interestingly, a USAID resources centre has also been established illegally at basement lobby of the Block A and the Capital Development Authority (CDA) officials are completely ignorant of the name of the competent authority, which permitted USAID to set up the office. The police personal of ICT are also using some of the service areas irrespective of the fact that the police personal deputed at the Lodges usually reside in the Police Lines, H-11. An office of MQM was also set up at the 2nd floor of the J-Block. The lobbies, lift rooms as well as service rooms, which vary in number from 3 to 8 in blocks A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H and J of the Parliament Lodges, are in the personal use of many Parliamentarians. According to the construction plan of every block, the lobbies are specified for the personal staff and guests of the all the Parliamentarians not for any single person, who reside in the specific block. Similarly, lift rooms are specified for the lift operators working in the Lodges whereas the service rooms are made for the maintenance staff. A senior official of the CDA, on the condition of anonymity, informed this scribe that the Authority never allowed or allotted any room to any parliamentarian or any other person and they themselves had occupied these rooms for their personal use. The issue has surfaced at a time when the National Assemblys Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges is likely to move a resolution during the upcoming session of National Assembly to get these places evacuated from the illegal occupations. A number of Parliamentarians have already raised their voices over the poor security condition of the Lodges, as a number of irrelevant people are residing in these areas. The list includes names of those Parliamentarians, who are also an important part of the Government. Peer Aftab Shah Jilani, Federal Minister for Culture, Senator Muhammad Ali Durrani, Sheikh Waqas Akram as well as Sumera Malik of PML-Q have occupied the service areas of the Block-A.
