ISLAMABAD Although Pakistan claimed Asian Mens Team Event Squash title after six years, yet the top officials of the Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) are not happy with the performance of top national players including Aamir Atlas Khan and Farhan Mehboob. A source told TheNation here on Wednesday that the boys were jubilant after winning the regional title and officials also welcomed the performance as well as advised them to do more. Pakistan stunned Malaysia in the team event final at Chennai, India, around two months back. Aamir earned the victory against high ranked Izlan Sakander while Yasir Butt thrashed heavyweight Ong Beng Hee to lift the trophy, he said. Pakistan No 1 Aamir Atlas, Farhan Mehboob and Yasir Butt showed poor performances in the individual fixture of the 15th Asian Squash Championship that was held from May 1 to 8 at the same venue. Aamir had left his match in the third game and Farhan was also facing fitness problems. However, Aamir and Butt produced good results in the team events, he added. He said that senior vice president Aisam Suleman hailed the performance of green shirts during the Asian Mens Squash Championship but he told the lads that it was not enough for Pakistan who dominated the world for last many decades. The SVP asked top nationals to toil hard to improve their international ranking, he said. Aamir showed poor performance in the Sky Open Squash Championship which was held at Cairo, Egypt, from May 17 to 22 this year. Aamir lost to Australian boy Cameroon Pelly in straight games 3-0, as officials were expecting a close contest, he added. He said that the officials also agreed that the top players did not toil hard to move ahead in international circuit. Despite this, that they are still incurring the needless burden of top players without analysing their performance. The PSF should focus on the juniors including Nasir Iqbal who performed well against top national players including Mansoor and Waqar in recently concluded local squash tournament Chief of Army Staff (COAS) National Squash Championship at Mushaf Squash Complex, he added.
