ISLAMABAD (APP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information, Transport and Inter-Provincial Coordination, Mian Iftikhar Hussain has said that the role of media is admitted and no one can deny its importance nor any war could be won without it adding that in the present critical circumstances its importance has double fold increased. This, he stated, while inspecting the under-construction building of Information Office Islamabad at Pukh-tukhwa House, Islamabad, said a handout issued here on Wednesday. Regional Director Information Islamabad Bahramand on this occasion briefed the minister regarding the pace of work of the project.The Information Minister on this occasion said that the government was thankful to the media for supporting it in its war against terrorism, extremism and militancy in the province and said media had a great role in the success in restoration of peace in Malakand Division particularly in Swat. He maintained, keeping in view the importance of media in the present era, the provincial government has decided to activate and harmonise the Information Department and equip it with latest facilities. Mian Iftikhar continued that special funds have been earmarked in the ADP for equipping the Information Offices at divisional level and acquisition of land was being underway for constructing modern information offices in the province. Similarly, test transmission of Radio Pakhtunkhwa has been started and its regular transmission would be started very soon, he continued. He added that broadcasting capacity would be extended to the entire province for bringing peace and defeating militancy and extremism in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Mian Iftikhar said that the provincial government was actively considering starting its own TV channel and the government in this regard was in close contact with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. He added that restructuring of Information Department, and a project of establishment of owns TV channel and extension of Radio Broadcast to the entire province has been included in the coming Comprehensive Development Strategy of the provincial government.
