LAHORE Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said future of Pakistan is linked to education and the aim of national progress and development can only be realised by equipping the new generation with modern knowledge. Primary education has a key importance in education sector and special attention has been focused on primary education. Implementation of the road map evolved for the uplift of primary education sector is leaving positive results, he said, while presiding over a meeting held to review implementation of the road map evolved with regard to school reforms at CMs Secretariat here on Thursday. Minister for Education Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman, MNA Saira Afzal Tarrar, Chairman Punjab Education Foundation Raja Muhammad Anwar, Secretary Schools, Secretary Literacy and officers concerned were present on the occasion. The CM said promotion of education was the top priority of government and revolutionary steps had been taken for that purpose, which included setting up of IT Labs in more than 4,000 schools of the province, Punjab Education Endowment Fund and Daanish Schools equipped with modern education facilities in backward and far-flung areas. The Punjab government made a substantial increase in the funds allocated for education sector in the last fiscal year and more funds will be earmarked for that sector in the next budget, he said, while adding that only properly trained teachers could perform their responsibility of educating young generation therefore, special attention was being paid to the training of teachers and special programmes were being conducted in all districts for that purpose. He also mentioned that district education officers were also being appointed on merit through search committees so that they could play an effective role for the development of education sector. He added that the revolutionary programme of 100 per cent enrolment of male and female children in schools in Punjab was also being implemented expeditiously. Secretary Schools Muhammad Aslam Kamboh gave a detailed briefing regarding implementation of the road map for schools reforms.
