LAHORE People who are well to-do should help the government in augmenting the social services delivery at the grassroots levels so that the poor masses, both living in the urban and rural areas, could lead their lives worthy of citizens of a welfares state. This was stated by the former Federal Secretary Information Akram Shaheedi while handing over keys of a new ambulance donated by him to the Government Hospital Tehsil Shakargarh here on Thursday. He expressed his resolve that he would ensure that the ambulance service of the said hospital remain fully functional without any break. He announced to get the old ambulance of the hospital comprehensively overhauled to its top condition to make it fully functional at in the service of the poor people. The hospital will be providing the service to the people of the region with the fleet of two ambulances instead of one which is in poor condition. He said the people of the country, especially living in the less developed regions, deserved the attention of the government and the rich alike in the sectors of health, education and civil amenities because infrastructure available in the far flung areas was poorly equipped to match the respectable provision of services in the fields. Shaheedi asserted that it was the social responsibility of the government as well as the rich to give priority to the people and invest in the social sector generously because the development of these sectors would ensure the eradication of social evils from the society. He mentioned the limitations of the public sectors those were mainly attributed to the states fight against extremism and terrorism, but added that the private sectors dedicated participation in this movement could bridge the gap to the advantage of the poor masses who otherwise would be deprived from the basic facilities so critical for their social uplift. He handed out a piece of advice to the people of higher echelons of the society when he said the mitigating of the sufferings of the poor would give the rich the meaning of comforts and satisfaction that was worth experiencing indeed. Their incremental involvement to take care of the poor will not be subject to diminishing return rather the dividends would multiply thus nullifying the famous economic theory, he observed.
