LAHORE The Fisheries Department Punjab has launched the fish seed stocking campaign in natural water bodies of the province. Director General Fisheries Muhammad Ashraf formally inaugurated the campaign by releasing 25,000 seed of fish varieties Rohu, Mori, Thaila and Grass Carp at Head Balloki, River Ravi. Director Fisheries Extension Iftikhar Ahmed Qureshi, officials of the department and private fish farmers were also present on the occasion. Speaking on this occasion, DG said due to aquatic pollution fish species once very common were now facing the danger of extinction. He added that keeping in view the situation, the Department released big size seed of cultureable varieties Rohu, Mori, Thaila, Silver Carp and Grass Carp in the natural water bodies every year. He also said purpose of releasing this seed is to replenish the decreasing fish production in nature.
