‘Utmost importance given to judges training’

ISLAMABAD - Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan, senior most judge Supreme Court, said that utmost importance is being given to the training of young judicial officers because they are the future judges of our superior judiciary including the high courts and the Supreme Court.
The honourable judge of the apex court expressed these views in a certificate-awarding ceremony on the conclusion of one-week orientation course on “Criminal Trial and Appreciation of Evidence” for civil judges-cum-judicial magistrates from all over Pakistan including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan, here at the Federal Judicial Academy (FJA) on Saturday.
He said whenever any training course is held in Academy is not inaugurated by any honourable judge of the Supreme Court, but also one of the honourable judges of the Supreme Court to share experience with them. From this you can imagine how much importance is being accorded to the training of young judges.
“Our efforts are continuing to improve the training courses here at the Academy. You can help us to formulate such courses in the future. You have to give us your intellectual input in this regard.”
About the much- desired varsity called the “Federal University of Law and Judicial Administration ( FULJA), he said: a lot of paper work has been done and in the upcoming fiscal year, the government has to provide us the amount and this university will provide a good opportunity to young judges and others to further improve education in the field of law and obtain degrees such as M. Phil and PhD.
Calling the district judiciary as the “backbone of the judiciary” he said: More than 80 percent cases come to the district judiciary and only 20 percent cases reach to the superior courts, hence, it is you who can play an important role in the hierarchy. It is your conduct only that builds the image of our judiciary as a whole.
“The Academy does not invite you here to teach you but it invites you to share you knowledge with each other and learn from the rich experience of the learned resource persons,” he maintained.
He urged the judicial officers to communicate their problems/ difficulties being faced by them in field so that those may be placed before the National Judicial (Policy Making) Committee for their consideration.
Earlier, Parvaiz Ali Chawla, DG of the Academy presented his welcome speech and an overview of the course.
