KARACHI - The provincial government has allowed the elite-class private schools, running on Cambridge system, in the province to observe summer vacations from June to July in Karachi.
It is proposed that the summer vacation be scheduled w.e.f. 16th June to 15th August, which would conveniently cover Ramadhan and Eid Holidays giving extra schooling days, as well as bypass the late monsoon effects
This was decided in a meeting held between Secretary Education Siddique Memon and the representatives of Group of Concerned and Private Schools Support Forum (PSSF).
PSSF has recorded their appreciation to the provincial government for consideration their equest.
Jameel Yousuf, a member of PSSF, said that our meeting of May 20, 2012 and a letter sent to the Sindh Education Minister Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq and copies to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Sindh Secretary Education, wide coverage in the Press on our genuine point of contention and not confrontation, was highly appreciated by the authorities concerned, whereas the support from the Chief Minister’s office was forthcoming from day one.
Yousuf said, “The Secretary Education Siddique Memon called me for a meeting on May 23, 2012, and was positive in resolving the issue, while also laying emphasis on other government constraints and needs, which also required to be addressed while considering our recommendations. He was kind to propose to Chief Minister through a summary as directed by the Ministry of Education Pir Mazhar ul Haq as under:
Each school so desiring its summer vacation to be other than in July - August’ 2012 will send a letter to the Director Education, Private School, Karachi and intimate him that due to administrative constraints re-scheduling the vacations is difficult and request to be condoned for the year 2012, irrespective of the school following the Matric/AKUEB/Cambridge System.
Also inform the Director of your preferred schedule i.e. 1st June - 31st July, 2012 as already intimated to the parents. Furthermore, for the next three years (2013 - 2015), it is proposed that the summer vacation be scheduled w.e.f. 16th June to 15th August.
