BAHAWALPUR - Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB) Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Mukhtar has said that the best way to pay tribute to the great personality of Nawab Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi V is to allocate 4 per cent of total GDP for the promotion of education. Nawab Sir Sadiq was the only state ruler of Indo-Pak subcontinent who initiated a revolution in a very short period of time though his broad vision in education, social and financial sectors. The impacts of these changes also influenced the Islamic world besides in the sub-continent. VC Dr Mukhtar was address a seminar organised in connection with the 46th death anniversary of Nawab Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi V entitled “Mohsin-e-Pakistan.” The seminar was organized by the Department of Pakistan Studies in collaboration with Al-Sadiq Desert Welfare Organization and Vasaib organization. On the request of Dr Muhammad Akbar Malik, the VC announced that the proposal for creating “Sadiq Chair” would be tabled in the next meeting of the university syndicate.

He expressed hope that the senior faculty members and elected representatives will play their due role in this regard. The IUB, in which our children are seeking higher education is a monument of late Nawab Sadiq and the people of the area are fortunate enough that Nawab Sadiq rendered memorable services in the field of education.

The farsightedness of the Nawab can be judged by the fact that the buildings constructed during his time can fulfil the need for coming 50 years and Jamia Masjid Al Sadiq, Sadiq Public School and Central Library Bahawalpur, which possess enough space to meet any issue regarding the unseen expansion to be faced in future. These buildings are the reflection of the spectacular strategy and planning of late Nawab.

Earlier, chief guest MNA Mian Baleeghur Rehman said that unless we don’t remember our benefactors, we will not achieve profound success. It is the need of the hour to highlight the achievements of Nawab Sir Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi V to pay him rich tributes.

Apart from knowledge friendly, he was a far-sighted ruler and brought revolutionary changes in the sectors of education, health and social justice. Renowned lawyer Mukhtar Ahmed Farani gave a detailed account of Nawab Sadiq’s religious and social services and said that Nawab Sadiq was a true Muslim and real follower of the Holy Prophet (Peace be Upon Him).

Makhdoom Nasir Bukhari also expressed his views on the occasion. Renowned intellectual Malik Habibullah Bhutta gave an eyewitness account of the funeral of late Nawab. Advocate Nawabzadi Saira Abbasi in her address mentioned her emotional affiliation with Nawab and said he totally ignored every type of privilege and threat and merged Bahawalpur State with Pakistan unconditionally. Dr Muhammad Tahir of Govt SE College, Al-Sadiq Desert Welfare Organization President Riaz Ahmed Baloch, Local Government Director Shahzad Ahmed Hameed and local poet Qamar Ahmed Lashari also paid tributes to Nawab Sir Sadiq Abbasi V.

On the occasion, Researcher Gulzar Ahmed Ghorri organized an exclusive exhibition of rare photographs highlighting periods of different rulers of Bahawalpur State.
