LAHORE - The PPP celebrated National Assembly speaker’s ruling in favour of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani at the party office here on Saturday.

PPP Punjab President Imtiaz Safdar Warriach along with Azizur Rehman Chann, Raja Amir Khan, Malik Ahsan Ganjiyal, Iqbal Sialvi and other leaders distributed sweats and chanted slogans in favour of the prime minister while expressing jubilations over the speaker’s decision.

Talking to mediamen on the occasion, Imtiaz Safdar Warriach said the speaker passed the decision after looking into the matter from all aspects. He said the ruling had vindicated the stand taken by the PPP that the prime minister could be disqualified and if the Supreme Court had to disqualify, it could not have written it in the judgment in unequivocal terms.

He appreciated the speaker’s ruling which was supported by the citations of Javed Hashmi case in which he was held guilty of high treason but was not disqualified to contest for the assembly membership. He blamed the PML-N for harping on the same ‘main na mano’ tune about the speaker‘s ruling forgetting it has been doing in the past.

He said Nawaz Sharif some time does not accept the speaker’s ruling and some time attacks the Supreme Court building, and some other time does not accept the president and prime minister. “I wonder what he accepts,” he said while condemning the PML-N’s venture for restraining protocol to the prime minister during his recent visit to UK.

He added that this act of the PML-N had damaged reputation of the country abroad.

However, he added, despite all that the UK government accorded full protocol to the prime minister that was slap on face of the PML-N. He aid at the time of Turkish prime minister’s visit to Pakistan, Prime Minister Gilani received him when Opposition leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan was also present. He said the PML-N must learn from the circumstance and should have at least followed the statement of the Turkish prime minister wherein he advised the Opposition not to topple the elected government.

Warraich continuing his tirade blamed Nawaz Sharif for accepting money to topple the government of Benazir Bhutto in 90s. The PML-N is confused, he said. He added that the past is evident that this party faced defeat in every by-elections on the basis of which this party should now measure its popularity.
