LAHORE -  Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan on Sunday came down hard on the caretakers for unbridled power outages across the country, and demanded the nation be provided relief on an immediate basis.
In a statement released by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Khan stated the caretakers had failed to share the agony of the common man, and wondered what was holding them back from releasing funds to offset energy shortfall.
“The attitude the caretakers have adapted is unacceptable”; they should tend to the sufferings of the ordinary man without any further delay, he went on to say.
Iranian Ambassador Ali Raza Haqiqan meanwhile met with Imran Khan at his residence and inquired after him. The foreign dignitary conveyed his wishes for Khan’s early recovery, and at the same time congratulated him over his party’s success in elections, especially in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Haqiqan appreciated PTI’s services towards democracy, and hoped the party would play the role of real opposition in the Punjab Assembly as well as Parliament and would end what he called the trend of friendly opposition by giving a tough time to the treasury over the various issues confronting the masses.
Nevertheless, PTI reviewed the various proposals of party MPAs about how to take the role of real opposition in the Punjab Assembly. In this respect, party’s candidate for opposition leader Mehmoodur Rasheed on Sunday chairing an important meeting said the PTI would finalise a strategy on how to go about things in the provincial assembly before the first session.
He said the people of Punjab had reposed confidence in PTI and that followers of Imran Khan would reflect aspirations of the people by playing the role of real opposition. Mehmood also said his party would not let rulers to use public funds for political benefits.
