Equality was bedrock of the creation of Pakistan and the two nation-theory. Hence when the Council of Islamic Ideology declared the Women Protection Action 2016 as not only against Shariah but also against the Two-nation theory it made little sense to those that view this progressive bill a long time coming. Women deserve a life of respect and dignity and the atrocious crimes of violence committed against them on a daily basis needs to stop. For the top clerical body that serve as an example for regular citizens to follow, allowing beatings and violence and encouraging oppression of women is unacceptable and a stand must be taken to prevent such regression.
“As you know, history shows that in England conditions, some time ago, were much worse than those prevailing in India today. The Roman Catholics and the Protestants persecuted each other. Even now there are some States in existence where there are discriminations made and bars imposed against a particular class. Thank God, we are not starting in those days. We are starting in the days when there is no discrimination, no distinction between one community and another, no discrimination between one caste or creed and another. We are starting with this fundamental principle that we are all citizens and equal citizens of one State.”
–Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in his Presidential Address to the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan on 11th August, 1947.
