LAHORE - The Lahore High Court yesterday sought reply from the federal government within two weeks in a petition seeking directions to make Urdu as official language in the country as laid down in the constitution. Justice Shahid Waheed passed the order on petition filed by Muhammad Aziz. The petitioner had submitted that under article 251(1) Urdu was declared official language and the arrangements were to be made for its being used for official and other purposes within fifteen years from the commencement of the 1973 Constitution but the same was never implemented.
