LAHORE - The Water and Sanitation Agency is going to install another 260 generators at Wasa tube wells in the city to provide uninterrupted water supply during Ramazan.

Wasa is currently operating 516 tube wells in the city, out of which 265 tube well have already installed generators and the rest will get generators soon.

“The Agency is making necessary arrangement to run tube wells 18 hours in Ramazan in which four to six hour’s electricity loadshedding is expected,” Wasa spokesman said.

Answering a query, the spokesman said though it is an expensive exercise but we have no other option. He said Wasa had issued SOPs according to which executive engineers will respond to the water shortage in the area.

Wasa has 40 percent area in Lahore which it has provided water supply to the citizens and if there is any shortage like situation in other areas including Walton Cantonment, Model Town, Defence Housing Society, Chauburji which is run under Public Works Department (PWD), Wasa will provide water tanks to these areas.

According to a survey conducted by The Nation areas including Icchra, Samanabad, Mozang, Wahdat Colony, Township are facing acute water shortage in the city.

A meeting was also held in this regard at Town Hall, which was chaired by DCO Lahore Capt (r) Muhammad Usman and Vice Chairman Wasa MPA Ch Shahbaz.

The DCO said that it is the responsibility of district administration and its allied civic agencies to provide regular water supply in all corners of the city for which all necessary arrangements would be carried out.

“The areas having water shortage will be focused on priority basis and the district administration and Wasa have jointly issued toll free numbers 1334, 0800-02345 and 0340-1112345 for registering complaints regarding water shortage. Citizens can register complaints, they will be supplied water on urgent basis,” Usman said.

He further stated that Wasa and CDGL have been preparing special arrangements for the provision of water in affected areas during the upcoming Ramazan, particularly at Sehr and Aftar timings. He directed town administrators to monitor the working of water tanks of Wasa and PHA and to check the attendance of Wasa officials.

The meeting was attended by Wasa MD Ch Naseer Ahmad, town administrators and TMOs.
