Monarchs of kingdom

I always wonder why is it that after the leadership of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, we have been in a political wilderness for 60 years? Various political parties have emerged, each with different slogans and programmes but none was able to produce able leadership. Today politics in Pakistan has become a game of life and death - power, money and fame being the stakes it is played for. Our great Quaid had called the government a servant of the state but today our leaders are the unchallenged monarchs of the kingdom. For a prosperous future, I believe we, as a nation need to revolutionize our approach towards life. Instead of exploiting the powers we get, we should use the positions bestowed upon us in a highly responsible way for betterment of the entire population. -UROOBA ALAM, Karachi, via e-mail, November 13.
