KIHD to get status of teaching institute

KARACHI - City District Government Karachi has decided to give Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases, the status of Teaching Institute and to affiliate it with Karachi Medical & Dental College. It has also been decided to establish a Nursing School at the KIHD with a cost of Rs.130 million while the annual budget of the Institute has also been raised to Rs.180 million due to the commencement of open-heart surgery. The decisions were made at the meeting of the governing body of the KIHD chaired by City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal on Wednesday. It was informed during the meeting that the Karachi Institute of Heart Disease has made rapid progress in a short period. With the advent of open heart surgery the Institute has already listed among the renowned heart disease institutes of the country and now it has all the capabilities to be up graded as the teaching institute. It was also learnt that a total of 347,313 heart patients have been benefited at the institute since July 2006 including the patients visited at the department of Angioplasty, Angiography, Emergency and O.P.D. The governing body was also told that a total of 44,999 tests have been carried out in the institute's laboratory while 16,357 patients were provided medical treatment after they were admitted to KIHD. Kamal on this occasion said that the Haq Parast city government has take rapid measures to provide better facilities to citizens in every sector. He also said directed the governing body to formulate such policies that could take the institute towards self-reliance without putting any burden on the patients. He also instructed to take rapid measures for start of work at phase-II of the institute. A committee constituted for this purpose will soon submit its report to City Nazim. City Nazim assures KCCI to resolve business community problems Syed Mustafa Kamal, Nazim Karachi City assured the Business Community to resolve the problems of Business Community, stated while addressing to the meeting convened at Karachi Chamber to commemorate his efforts as Karachi City Nazim and nomination as second best performing mayor of the world, he invited the KCCI delegation for meeting at City Government Secretariat, for resolution to their problems in one week. Karachi Chamber organized a meeting with Nazim CDGK to discuss issues concerning Karachi City District Government. Anjum Nisar, President of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry addressed the meeting highlighting the major issues which need immediate attention of Nazim CDGK for resolution. President KCCI drew City Nazims attention towards strategic position of Karachi City. He stated that Karachi generates 70 percent revenue for the government, but in return they were not even given solution to their problems which are increasing day by day highly affecting the business activities and resulted in widespread discontentment. Among other Business Leaders were Javed Bilwani, Senior Vice President, Muhammad Ali Vice President and former Presidents of KCCI Zubair Motiwala, Tahir Khaliq, Haroon Farooki, A.Q Khalil. Businessmen urged the City Nazim to ensure provision of basic amenities such as Water, Sewerage etc at Industrial areas. Broken roads in Korangi Industrial Area and F.B. Industrial Area immediately be repaired and carpeted. Incidents of decoities and snatching of money and mobile phones be eradicated by utilizing the CDGK community police along with the police department. Due to electricity outages, traders have installed electricity generators in the market, CDGK demanding rental which is unaffordable for small trader which may be abolished or allowed on nominal rates. Old vehicles are spreading excessive pollution in the city, vehicle fitness record be computerized to curtail corruption. CNG buses be introduced in Karachi to overcome pollution. Vigilance cameras for safety and security monitoring be installed at important points and markets. Tanker mafia be eliminated and illegal hydrants must be shutdown.
