ISLAMABAD (Online)- The Health Ministry has directed Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) not to register doctors who have got their degrees from Chinese Medical Colleges. The decision not only puts at stake the future of 44 MBBS doctors but the future of hundreds of Pakistani students studying in 7 different medical colleges of China is also in dark. It is important to mention here that PMDC while giving approval of 7 medical colleges and universities of China allowed Pakistani students to study there and after that 44 Pakistani students, including 7 female students have taken admission in Xi'an Jiaotong University of China in 2003. These students after completing their MBBS degree returned to country and applied for registration in PMDC but they were informed that the Council has stopped registration of students completing their degrees from China under the directives of Health Ministry. The doctors while expressing their concern told this agency they completed their Medical degrees from a medical institution of China, which was approved by PMDC in 1988, adding that the registration of doctors, completed their degrees from China was continued till October 2008 but the Health Ministry suddenly banned the registration. They underlined that they neither do House Job in Pakistan nor can practice in the country. The students have demanded of the Prime Minster Yousuf Raza Gilani and Federal Health Minister Ijaz Jakhrani to take notice of the issue and revoke the decision of imposing ban on the registration of students completing their degrees from Chinese Medical Colleges.
