LAHORE - Senator SM Zafar has said that former federal minister late Mehmood Ali was a pious politician but unfortunately those who replaced him are engaged in framing laws to protect their corruption. He expressed these views while addressing gathering in connection with third death anniversary of Mehmood Ali at Aiwan-e-Karkunan-e-Tehreek-e-Pakistan held under the aegis of Nazria-e-Pakistan Trust (NPT) on Thursday. Chairman NPT Majid Nizami, Prof Dr Rafique Ahmad, Pir Syed Muhammad Kabir Ali Shah, Begum Suraiya K H Khursheed, Begum Mehnaz Rafi, Dr MA Soofi, Prof Rafique Alam and Adeeb Javidani. Paying tributes to Mehmood Ali, Zafar said he devoted all his life for reunification of Bangladesh with Pakistan. I feel honour to attend such anniversaries which are held in memory of such great leaders, he remarked. He said Liaquat Ali Khan after arriving in Pakistan received nothing for the land he had left in India. Similarly, Sardar Abdur Rab Nishter travelled on bicycle and had no asset at the time of his demise. He said, Bangladesh is making more progress than Pakistan while our exchequer is being transferred abroad while its currency was also stronger than that of Pakistan. He said Mehmood Ali used to say that after the formation of Bangladesh though two governments had been made but even then the nation was one and the people should be ruled by one government. Majid Nizami said, Today we are here to recall such a great person who left his native place (Silhat) for the sake of Pakistan, which he considered his homeland. He said Mehmood Ali and his forefathers used to add the word 'Maulvi with their names reflecting that they were committed to Islam. He lamented the fact that his daughter was living alone in Islamabad, which was a very unfortunate thing. Nizami said those who did not accept Bangladesh included Mehmood Ali, Noor-ul-Amin, Kh Khair-ud-Din and Raja Teri Dev Rai rendered great sacrifices. In fact majority of Bengalis did not accept Bangladesh, he said, adding that the people would be unified again in case Urdu accepted as official language in Bangladesh. He accused the Hindus of misguiding Bengalis and said it was the reason why they did not adopt Urdu language. Still there is time to investigate the reasons behind separation of Bangladesh, he said. Vice-Chairman NPT Dr Rafique Ahmad said Mehmood Ali played an active role in Pakistan Movement and was a great champion of Kashmir cause. Pir Syed Kabir said youngsters should follow Mehmoods footsteps who devoted his life for the betterment of Pakistan. Rafique Alam also paid tributes to Mehmood Ali and said he always insisted for an inquiry about Indian involvement Dhaka debacle. Adeeb Javidani said the late leader was of the view that Pakistan would be completed only after merger of Kashmir. Mehnaz Rafi said the objective of Pakistan Movement and efforts of freedom fighters would be conveyed to the youth, especially those who migrated for Pakistan and did not returned to their forefathers homes.
