Militants planning attacks on foreigners

PESHAWAR Militants are planning to target foreigners specially US, British and Saudi citizens, say law enforcement agencies in their report sent to the authorities concerned. Well-placed sources told The Nation that the National Crisis Management Cell had informed the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, FATA authorities, DG Rangers Sindh and other authorities concerned about the threat. According to the LAEs report, the militants are planning to target the foreigners who were working in the flood-affected areas of KP, and the foreign diplomats and consulates of US, UK, Saudi Arabia and Iran. Apart form this, religious scholars of the different sects and shrines are also on hit list of the militants. The Government has been asked to take appropriate security measures, however, some areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have already been put in the red zones owing to fear of the terrorist attacks during Muharram. Keeping in view the security situation during Muharram, about 12 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, already declared as the most sensitive, will be controlled by the armed forces. Under the security plan chalked out for the month of Muharram, about 900 religious places including Imam bargahs and mosques have been declared highly sensitive. Even some of the government departments have also not been informed about the security measures taken for these areas owing to the sensitivity of the issue.
