LAHORE Twenty new CNG buses started their operations on Route-I (R A Bazaar to Sandah) here on Saturday. Chairman Lahore Transport Company, Khawaja Ahmad Hassan inaugurated the buses. Speaking on the occasion, the chairman said that gradual increase of investment in urban transport sector was indicative of reposing confidence in the policies of the Punjab Govt. Promotion of CNG fitted transport is the integral part of our urban transport policy. Promotion of CNG will give strong impetus in creating environment friendly conditions in the City. Under phased programme modernised buses will be provided on each route of Lahore, he reiterated. According to Ahmad Hassan, private transport companies were taking keen interest in strengthening the urban transport of the City. Khawja Ahmed Hassan said that it was obligatory on the part of citizens and students to protect these buses which were being provided for giving relief to the public. In order to make journey more pleasant, LTC has started establishing new modern designed bus shelters having passengers amenity booths, route maps and other facilities, he said, adding the LTC also started maintenance and cleaning services at existing bus shelters in order to provide clean and safe waiting areas to the passengers. He said that LTC management was trying hard to ensure uninterrupted supply of CNG to the urban transport.
