OUR STAFF REPORTER SADIQABAD - Expressing a fear that terrorists could hit four districts of the South Punjab on Muharram 9 and 10, the Interior Ministry has directed the law-enforcement agencies that Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Ali Pur, Ahmadpur Sharqia and Hateji be put on high alert. In its dispatch sent to the Police Department and other law-enforcement agencies, the ministry disclosed that terrorist activities could be carried out in these areas of the province. It also directed that security of Muharram processions and their routs, congregations, mosques, Imambargahs and other sensitive place be beefed up and all-out arrangements be finalised beforehand. Earlier, the Interior Department Punjab ordered the law enforcement agencies including police to make maximum security arrangements to protect Muharram processions and congregations in district RY Khan. The department further directed in its dispatch to the agencies that all the sensitive places be provided high security to avoid any untoward incident during the holy month, directing them not to show any leniency in checking people and not to take any chance and keep a vigilant eye on criminals and terrorists. On the other side, the RY Khan DPO said that the war against terrorism was a permanent one which could be won through appropriate strategy and dedication. He was addressing a training workshop organised to impart training to hundreds of volunteers hailing from across the district and to devise a strategy against terrorism. On the occasion, he said that nobody would be allowed to carry arms and ammunition during Muharram, stressing the need for changing the mindset of terrorism. He added that ban on mobile phone use would be implemented and organisers would be responsible for distributing food items during processions and congregations. Today, terrorists are shedding blood of innocent people in various parts of the country while the police other law enforcers are sacrificing their lives in fight against the anti-Pakistan and anti-Islam forces, the DPO said. However, the RY Khan Special Branch Office is imparting training to the volunteers regarding checking and frisking everyone to be participating in Muharram processions and other gatherings. The training is being imparted on the directives of the Lahore additional inspector general (special branch) and Bahawalpur Region senior superintendent of police (special branch) under the supervision of Inspector Rana Zafar Mehmood.
