LAHORE - The Young Nurses Association continued protest outside Lahore Press Club on the third consecutive day on Saturday to press for the demand of special pay package, revised service structure and withdrawal of FIR registered against nurses for coming on The Mall. The committee comprising Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, Parliamentary Secretary Health Dr Saeed Elahi, Advisor to Chief Minister Begum Zakiya Shahnawaz and MPA Arifa Khalid held dialogue with the leadership of nurses but the protesters refused to call off sit in till issuance of notification regarding special pay package and other demands. The nurses, later, postponed the protest till Monday (tomorrow) after issuance of minutes of meeting held between the government committee and the leadership of protesters. Like the previous two days, untiring nurses continued protest and staged a sit in outside LPC for about nine hours, causing massive traffic jams on important arteries in the close vicinity. They chanted slogans against the Punjab CM and in favour of their demands. Absence of nurses from public sector hospitals added to the woes of patients as not only normal functioning at the facilities were disturbed but also several surgeries were postponed. Like the previous days, parliamentarians from the PPP and PML-Q, Young Doctors Association, Pakistan Medical Association and various human rights organisations joined the protest to express solidarity and support demands of nurses.
