RAWALPINDI – Finally, the Punjab government as well as Rawalpindi police bosses took a harsh decision against a very influential police inspector, who along with five of his colleagues had mercilessly thrashed a City Traffic Warden in police station for catching him (the inspector) listening mobile phone while driving a private car at Rawal Chowk.

Following the orders of Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Shehbaz Sharif, City Police Officer (CPO) Azhar Hameed Khokher suspended Station House Officer (SHO) Police Station (PS) New Town Inspector Syed Ijaz Shah on account of brutally beating a CTW Khurran Nazir in uniform on November 21, 2012 when the warden tried to stop a private corolla car being driven by SHO Ijaz Shah at Rawal Chowk for using mobile phone while driving.

Meanwhile, SP Headquarters Israr Satti has been assigned the task to inquire the matter in depth to ascertain the real fact behind the shameful incident that earned bad name for Punjab police.

It is pertinent to mention here that a high and mighty Rawalpindi based MNA of N-League had tried to save the skin of SHO Ijaz Shah, who reportedly has become untouchable despite having a long list of violations he made during his duty. However, the CM Punjab, while maintaining his good governance, took a stern action against the defiant police officer SHO Ijaz Shah and ordered CPO to suspend him and to hold an inquiry against him (SHO) for departmental action.

DSP New Town Circle Shuhaib Aqeel, however, when contacted, confirmed the happening. “Yes, SHO Ijaz Shah has been suspended for beating a traffic warden that too in uniform”. He said that an inquiry has also been assigned to SP Headquarters to find the real fact behind the incident.

On the other hand, the brave decision of the CM Punjab and CPO was widely adored by hundreds of CTWs, who earlier disheartened because of lethargic attitude of CPO Azhar Hameed Khokher.
