ISLAMABAD – The administration of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) handed over relieving letters to three young doctors allegedly found guilty in the attack incident as per decision of the inquiry committee repatriating them to the respective institutes.

Action against the fourth doctor, who is an employee of the hospital, will be taken after the proceedings of the hospital disciplinary committee and on its recommendations.

The inquiry was conducted by the Ministry of Capital Administration and Development (CAD) into the incident of October 20 in which Pims Executive Director’s Office was damaged and two doctors were injured during a scuffle. The brawl had occurred on the call of strike call given by the Young Doctors Association (YDA), Islamabad, against the torture of a doctor by the guard of a VIP patient.

The young doctors had requested the National Assembly Standing Committee on the Ministry of CAD to hold impartial inquiry afresh of the attack incident as the inquiry committee of the ministry, what they called, was biased and it ignored the real culprits who were outsiders and implicated only young doctors.

A statement issued by the YDA Islamabad, on the issuance of letters, said, “The ED Pims proved to be a liar as he had promised in front of all the young doctors that no body would be harmed in this inquiry held against Dr. Taqqi, Dr. Shams, Dr. Ejaz and Dr. Asfandyar but today we got termination letters.”

It said that they were terminated because they had fought for the increase in stipend to 50,000, for the service structure, for regularization of contractual doctors, for dignity of the doctors so that private guards of VIP patients can never insult the doctors.

“This can happen to anybody in future if today we kept silence and did not oppose this brutality...come out brothers and sisters and tell them that termination can never stop us from struggle for our rights,” they asked their fellow doctors in the statement.
