LAHORE – Secretary General Jamaat-e-Islami Liaqat Baloch has said that the present government has no right to delay the elections after completing its term.

Addressing the two day leadership course organised by the JI Punjab for district level leadership at Mansoora, he said that an interim government should be set up forthwith, with the consultation of the opposition and other political parties to hold fair, free and transparent elections.

Baloch said the country was suffering from lawlessness and unrest. The common man had deep hatred for President Zardari and his team. The present rulers had completely failed to provide any relief to the masses.

The problems and the difficulties of the people had been increasing with every passing day, while the corruption and loot and plunder of the rulers was going on unabated, he said. If the rulers had any moral courage, they would have stepped down voluntarily for their failure to deliver, he added.

The JI leader said the judiciary in the country was free and now there was no scope for any unconstitutional dispensation or the induction of any technocrat Premier from abroad. The army too won’t step in politics nor would it play any role in the change of government, he added.

Baloch stressed that the Election Commission should be completely independent and the Presidency and civil bureaucracy should be impartial so that the electorate was able to choose its representatives without any pressure.

He said the JI would fully participate in the elections. He said the JI was striving for the unity of the religious parties so as to block the way of secular and pro- US parties in the coming elections.
