ISLAMABAD – Law Minister Farooq H Naek Monday discussed with Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf the forthcoming reference to be filed by the President before the Supreme Court to seek opinion in the matter of appointment of judges in the superior courts.The federation intends to file a reference in order to obtain the advice of the apex court under article 186 of the constitution with regard to the appointment of chief justice of Islamabad High Court (IHC) by the Judicial Commission, as well as the confirmation of IHC judges.At the PM House meeting held in the morning, they deliberated over the questions to be posed to the apex court, and the prime minister directed the minister to prepare the reference in manner so all the issues involved could be settled in a transparent manner and constitutional manner.PM Raja said that the government has always abided by the constitution and has taken recourse to constitutional remedies whenever an issue has arisen where one of the organs of the state or a point of law is under question.Appreciating the advice given by the law minister for filing of the reference, the prime minister said that it will not only further improve their relationship with the judiciary but also bring clarity to the process of appointing judges, besides reaffirming government policy of a harmonious working of all the state institutions.The PM said they believe that all the institutions should work in consultation with each other without interfering in each other affairs. He expressed the confidence that the filing of reference will enhance the respect of state’s institutions in the eyes of common man which will strengthen democracy and state’s institutions.Meanwhile, PM Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has expressed satisfaction over the peaceful culmination of Ashura processions throughout the country. The prime minister praised the personnel of law enforcement agencies for their untiring efforts to maintain peace and ensure security on 9th and 10th of Muharram. The PM said that an inquiry has been ordered into the terrorist attack in DI Khan where innocent civilians lost their lives and directed for bringing those responsible for incident to book. He thanked all federal and provincial agencies, the Armed Forces and provincial governments for maintenance of law and order. He also appreciated Interior Minister Rehman Malik for taking appropriate measures and successfully overseeing and monitoring the security situation for ensuring peace during Ashura.
