LAHORE-Punjab Governor Sardar Latif Khan Khosa on Monday rejected reports that government was preparing ground to postpone the coming elections for one year by extending the tenure of the present assemblies.

“People spreading rumours about the upcoming general elections and those sceptical of the electoral process should not be worried at all. The elections would be held on time”, the governor said while talking to the media at the residence of senior journalist Salman Ghani where he had gone to condole the death of latter’s mother.

Khosa also made it clear that government would complete its five-year term and elections would be held later. He was confident that the process of transition from one government to another would get completed peacefully and in a transparent manner.

Khosa said that coming by-elections to be held on December 4 would also be held without any trouble. 

Answering a question about security issues during Moharram, he said that if the civil society and ulema form Peace Committees to promote harmony among different sects, there would be no need to ban pillion riding and to suspend cell phone services.
