PESHAWAR – Three policemen sustained injuries when a roadside explosive device exploded near a police van in the jurisdiction of Sarband Police Station on Monday.

According to details, a police van was on it way and when it reached Achini Cross, suddenly a roadside planted bomb exploded. Police officials said that the actual target was police, as the bomb exploded when a police van passed through the area on Achini Road.

The injured policemen included Rehmatullah (24), Aqeel Ahmed (25) and Luqman (25). They were rushed to Khyber Teaching Hospital.

A case against unidentified terrorists was registered at the Sarband police station. Police later launched a search operation, however, no arrest was made till filing this report.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Army engineers, after hectic efforts, reopened Lowari Tunnel for traffic here on Monday.

The tunnel was closed after snowfall. Due to closure of Lowari Tunnel, a number of passengers had been caught, however Pakistan Army engineers worked hard and restored the runnel for traffic again.

The tunnel has always been closed for traffic during winter. It will now remain open for traffic in winter for three days - Monday, Wednesday and Friday - in a week from 12:30pm to 15:30pm. For this purpose all the necessary arrangements have already been taken, as heavy machinery have been made available on both side of the tunnel.

Lowari Tunnel is the only land route connecting Chitral to other parts of the country.
