Amidst rising crime, police get pat on the back

SADIQABAD
Amidst a number of dacoity and robbery incidents and demands for elimination of rising crime, Sadiqabad police have got a pat on the back from various religious, political and businessmen’s leaders of the tehsil for ensuring peace during Muharram with coordination of the public.
“The police led by ASP Zeshan Siddiqi excellently served the public by ensuring peace during the first 10 days of the month,” said  PPP leader Rariq Mehmood, District Peace Committee members, Sarafa Association office-bearers, Transporters Association President M Afzal and others during their meeting with the SP at his officer.
On the occasion, they also assured the police of their full cooperation to ensure peace and control crime. Praising the police performance, they said that the police had nabbed various criminals’ groups and arrested a number of outlaws from tehsil Sadiqabad and brought proclaimed offenders to book. During the sacred month, they said, the police maintained cooperation with the local Ulema to ensure an environment of brotherhood and religious harmony.  Even after the Rawalpindi mayhem which took at least 10 lives, the local police maintained peace, they said. However, the SP said that only with the cooperation of people, the police could control crime. On the other side, because of “inappropriate” police patrol in Sadiqabad, the incidents of robbery and theft are increasing day by day. Shootouts between outlaws, and watchmen and people are order of the day in the Tehsil. As a result, panic is spreading among the people who are unable to come out of their houses after dawn.
Such an incident took place in Street 1 of the colony where three armed men tried to enter into a house and opened fire at the watchman. However, the watchman deployed there also retaliated. The local citizens including Anwar, Asghar, Kashif, Adeel, Niaz, Basheer, Ashraf, Naveed, Abdul Razzaq, M Waseem and Atif demanded that the Rahim Yar Khan district police officer should take a notice of the situation. They said that they had repeatedly written to the circle police but to no avail.
Earlier, senior police official claimed that the police were making an all-out effort to control crime as patrolling system had been improved while strenuous measures were being made to control dacoity, robbery, theft, highway robbery and other such incidents.
