LAHORE  - Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has highly lauded the Pak Army's valuable sacrifices which it rendered for the integrity and safeguarding of the country.

Addressing a key distribution ceremony of 800 flats among the heirs of Pak Army martyrs in Lahore on Tuesday, COAS paid rich tributes to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for protecting human lives and national sovereignty.

He said that the Pak Army is capable of dealing with any internal or external threat and to guard the national frontiers.

The COAS said that these flats are equipped with the latest living facilities ,adding, that the flats have been constructed in the form of a colony.

He said that 400 flats will also be established‚ under this scheme‚ in next phase which will be extended upto 6,000 housing flats. "The purpose of this scheme is to provide the families with a place to call home," he said. Each family will receive one plot. The scheme was exclusive to the Army in its initial stages. However, on October 1, 2013, this benefit was extended to members of battalions who die fighting in Azad Kashmir. Kayani said that the families are free to do what they want with the plots. "You can live in them, or put them on rent," he said. The only condition is that the plots can only be sold with the permission of the soldiers children, he added, once they are old enough to make the decision. Everyone who dies in service will be included in the scheme, Kayani stated, regardless of the length of their service.

He said that the martyrs of AJK will also be included in this scheme.

Under the scheme, a flat is allotted to the families of those soldiers who are martyred or those who died during service.

This residential colony is located in DHA, Lahore. Kayani said that the Army is taking all possible steps for the welfare of the martyrs families, adding, that the current scheme is launched with this intention. He said that establishment of peace and resolution of conflicts in any part of the world ultimately contributes to international peace and stability.

COAS lauded the sacrifices laid down by Armed Forces in the line of defending country since its independence.

He said that the Army will continue housing schemes for the benefit of the families, adding, each flat has a good market price. Gen. Kayani handed over keys and allotment papers to the heirs of the martyrs. He further said that families of martyred will be given all latest facilities ,adding, that 95 per cent work has been completed in the colony.

He directed the concerned staff to complete the 5 per cent work at the earliest in view to accommodate the families of the martyred persons. He congratulated Army officials for their overwhelming efforts to complete the project round the clock ,adding, that the project is dream come true for the martyred families.
