ISLAMABAD - Board of Directors (BoD) of Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC) has approved to ink a deal with with Engro Vopeck to bring liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the country.
Official sources privy to the development told TheNation that meeting of BoD of SSGCL was held under its chairman Moftah Ismail to take up fast track $2billion worth LNG project. The BoD has allowed the SSGC to sign a contract with Engro Vopeck for the supply of LNG to the country. Under the fast track LNG project, 40 crore cubic feet of LNG would be imported by either the government or a private party. And, terminal of Engro Vopeck would be utilized for re-gasification and to meet the purposes of storage. Later, the gas would be injected into the system of SSGCL.
They also told that agreement with Engro Vopeck would be functional for 15years. The Government of Pakistan would buy the LNG from Qatar and it would use the terminal of Engro Vopeck. According to a plan of government, 40cror cubic feet would be injected into the system of SSGCL by November 2014.
