Pilgrims protest in Quetta over non-availability of security to buses

Quetta: Pilgrims in Quetta protested on Gulistan road today over not getting security for their buses travelling to Iran. A large number of protesters blocked the road for traffic and stated that the government promised them of conveying 200 buses to Taftan in the month of Muharram and Safar.

However; no security has been provided to those buses due to which more than 4000 pilgrims present in various imambargahs are facing severe difficulties. The pilgrims while protesting against the government raised slogans over the inefficiency.

On the other hand, Balochistan Shia Conference has announced to depart pilgrims’ buses to Taftan without No Objection Certificate (NOC). Buses leave Quetta every day to carry pilgrims to the Shia holy sites in western Iran and parts of southern Iraq.

The buses are under constant threat and have been attacked several times in the past resulting in life loss. The attacks are either carried out through blasts or by gunmen who open indiscriminate fire on the pilgrims.
