ISLAMABAD -  Minister of State for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Marriyum Aurangzeb Saturday said the appointment of General Qamar Bajwa as Chief of the Army Chief (COAS) was a sagacious decision taken by the prime minister. The minister, in a statement, said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had selected General Raheel Sharif as COAS who implemented his (PM's) plans for war against terrorism by undertaking Operation Zarb-e-Azb, Karachi operation and National Action Plan in a very effective manner. Gen Bajwa, she hoped, would ensure continuation of the policies. Today's decision was manifestation of the fact that the institutions were becoming strong and stable, she added.

Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Saturday termed the appointment of Lt-Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa as new Chief of the Army Staff a good decision.

“Yes, this is a good decision considering that his professionalism was taken into consideration,” Sheikh Rashid told a private TV channel.

“I hope that it will prove to be a good appointment for Pakistan’s war against terrorism and security of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC),” he said.

To a question, Sh Rashid said that Zarb-e-Azb operation was not going to end. “It is going to last longer than expected,” he said, adding that militants who fled the operation could regroup.

Balochistan Governor Muhammad Khan Achakzai and Chief Minister Nawab Sanaullah Zehri felicitated newly-appointed army chief Lt Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Lt Gen Zubair Hayat.
