LAHORE -  A boy was killed while another injured in a road accident in Manga Mandi on Saturday.

Police said Talha, 16, and his friend Fraz, of same age, were on their way to somewhere on motorcycle when they got hit by an overspeeding trailer. Both the motorcyclists lost their balance and fell on the road and suffered critical injuries.

The driver fled the scene after leaving the trailer on the road.

A Rescue-1122 ambulance reached the spot, took the injured to Manga Mandi Hospital where Talha succumbed to injuries while Fraz’s condition was said to be stable.

NH&MP Rising Day celebrated

The National Highways & Motorway Police, Central Zone, celebrated November 26 as “NH&MP Rising Day” with professional spirit and enthusiasm.

The Motorway Police commemorate the day with series of activities like road safety walks, conferences, seminars, special patrolling and distribution of gifts hampers among road users on national highways.

Zonal Commander DIG Mirza Faran Baig, while addressing a cake cutting ceremony at Guidance Center, said the United Nations and Asian development declared the Motorway Police as a model institution while Transparency International and NAB declared the only corruption free department in Pakistan.

He lauded the performance of NH&MP officers to maintain professionalism on national highways. “Motorway Police have earned respect and trust of people through its vision, mission, outstanding performance, courtesy attitude and corruption free practices,” DIG Baig added.

SSP Masroor Alam Kolachi, patrolling officers, member of civil society, students and transporters were also present on the occasion.
