ISLAMABAD   -  Senior leader of ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Abdul Aleem Khan on Friday resigned from his provincial cabinet portfolios following his meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan.

He presently serves as senior minister and minister for food in Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar’s cabinet.  In a Twitter post, Khan said that he was sending his resignation to CM Buzdar.

“I convinced PM Imran Khan in today’s meeting that I should hold no government position to ensure impartiality after becoming owner of news channel Samaa TV,” he said.  Aleem added that he convinced the PM to accept his resignation. “I am thankful to him (PM) that he has accepted my request,” he also said.  Aleem Khan has recently purchased a news channel in a deal of multi-billion rupees.

Khan was made local government minister in Punjab after PTI came into power in 2018. But he had stepped down from his position after the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) detained him for an investigation into allegations of corruption. In April 2020, he was re-induced into the Punjab cabinet with new portfolios.
