LAHORE A writ petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court to seek a halt of the PML(N) public rally scheduled to be held tomorrow (October 28). The petitioner Rana Abdul Hameed advocate contends that the Punjab govt has used all the government machinery to make the PML(N) rally a success. When the fact is, by using the official staff and other articles for the public meeting of a political party, a gross violation of the mandate given to the Shahbaz Sharif government has been done, the petitioner further added. The petitioner has prayed to the court to restrain the PML(N) from holding the rally in question as a blatant misuse of authority has occurred. Notice to N MPA on defamation plea:  Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed of the Lahore High Court on Wednesday issued notice to the PML(N) MPA Nighat Nasir on a petition filed by the MPA of the Opposition party, PML(Q) Dr Faiza Asghir alleging defamation on the respondent. The petitioner contends that MPA Nighat Nasir has levelled on her serious allegation of corruption, which are totally baseless and unfounded charges. However the allegations against her by the respondent, the petitioner contends, has damaged her reputation, good name, and respect besides factoring serious mental torment. As a matter of repairing the loss caused by the false charges on her, the respondent may be required to pay her Rs 50 crores as damages, the petitioner has prayed to the court. The court while issuing notice to the respondent has required her to file reply to the petition by November 15. IG visits CCPO office:  Inspector General of Police Punjab Javed Iqbal paid a visit to the CCPO office here on Wednesday. On his arrival, CCPO Lahore Ahmad Raza Tahir welcomed the provincial police chief. In his meeting with the senior officers of Lahore Police, the IGP discussed prevailing law and order situation in the provincial capital. The meeting was attended by the CCPO, DIG Operations Ghulam Mehmood Dogar, DIG Investigation Ali Amir Malik, SSP Operations Shaukat Abbas, SSP Shariq Kamal, SSP Admin Tariq Abbas Qureshi and other senior officers.
