ISLAMABAD Pakistan have no dearth of sporting talent in all the major sporting fields and particularly Tenpin Bowling players in a short span of time have done us and nation proud, these views were expressed by M Shuja Khan, President Pakistan Tenpin Bowling Federation in an exclusive interview with TheNation on Wednesday. Shuja Khan, KP Minister for Food, is also the President of KP Athletics Association and working for the promotion of sports in country and particularly in the terror-hit KP province, said: My father was a great sports lover and he owned a football club, namely Al-Fateh Football Club and now I am president of this club and running affairs with my own pocket. While replying to a query regarding non-availability of bowling alley in the capital for the players Shujah said: We are working on this particular issue and are quite hopeful that will manage to get a piece of land at Pakistan Sports Board or at Lake View Park soon and will start construction of an international standard bowling alley with our own resources. He said that it is true that bowling is an expensive sports but it is a family game and everybody can enjoy and play this game with their families. As soon as we construct our own alley then we will fix minimum charges to enjoy this facility at the cheapest possible rates and till the construction of our own alley we have to play at Mega Zone Bowling Club, he claimed. He said that Pakistan Tenpin Bowling Federation will hold a international Championship next year in Karachi and they are hopeful of 40 to 50 top countries will appear in the event. As many as 30 players have already confirmed their participation in the event and the event will help end international sporting isolation of the country, he added. Shujah said that the main aim behind hosting this event is to show the world that Pakistan is completely safe for all kinds of sporting events while bowling is an indoor game and needs not much security for the players. Shujah said: I request to the world to settle down their issued in playing grounds instead of war. It is a matter of great honour for us that Asian and Commonwealth Bowling federations have given us the full affiliation and acknowledge our services for the promotion of Tenpin Bowling in Pakistan, he added. He slammed Pakistan Sports Board for using delaying tactics in giving us the affiliation and to prolong this issue. He said: If PSB grants us the affiliation we will hold an international Tenpin Bowling championship but the unwanted delay has forced us to postpone the event till next year, PSB must issue us the long-awaited affiliation so we can concentrate on organizing the international Tenpin Bowling Championship next year. Shujah promised to do his utmost and use his all good offices for the promotion of Tenpin Bowling other sports in the country. He said that sports can help my province to get rid of terror menace and to utilize the services of our youth for healthy activities.
