LARKANA - President Asif Ali Zardari said on Wednesday that Begum Nusrat Bhutto was an asset of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and she will be remembered for her services to democracy and her work for the poor lot of womenfolk. Speaking at a condolence meeting of PPPs Central Executive Committee (CEC) in Naudero, he said: This is not a day to discuss political issues but to pay homage to 'mother of democracy who started the politics of reconciliation in country to strengthen democracy. The president said Begum Nusrat empowered women as well as organised them for revival of democracy. Nusrat Bhutto along with her daughter, Benazir Bhutto, faced challenges of dictatorship and she devoted her life for the democracy in country, he added. He said the services rendered by her for the nation, for democracy as well as for the PPP were unmatched. Zardari said Sanam Bhutto is the last 'brave daughter of Bhutto family and we all follow in the footsteps of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto for the completion of his mission and vision. The CEC unanimously approved a resolution calling for writing and addressing Begum Nusrat Bhutto with the title of 'Madar-e-Jamhoriat. Earlier, the president along with federal and provincial ministers attended Rasm-e-Qul of former first lady Begum Nusrat Bhutto at Presidential Camp House in Naudero. On the occasion, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and a large number federal and provincial minister, politicians and party workers were present. Prayers were offered for the eternal peace of the departed soul. President Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto received the people who joined the bereaved family in their hour of grief and sorrow. Those who attended the Soyem included among others Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Federal Ministers Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan and Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah, and Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan Syed Mehdi Shah. The PPP Parliamentarians including Faryal Talpur, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Ayaz Soomro, Agha Siraj Durrani and Ms Tauqeer Fatima Bhutto also attended the Soyem. Agencies add: On the other hand a separate Rasm-e-Qul of Begum Nusrat Bhutto was arranged at Al-Murtaza House in Larkana on Wednesday. Pakistan Peoples Party-Shaheed Bhutto (PPP-SB) Chairperson Ghinwa Bhutto, Fatima Bhutto, Zulfiqar Ali Junior and a large number of political workers attended the ceremony. Ghinwa Bhutto is the widow of Nusrat Bhuttos son Murtaza Bhutto. People are coming in large numbers at Murtaza House to condole Begum Bhuttos death. PPP-SB Chairperson Ghinwa Bhutto on this occasion termed the present rulers as 'democratic dictators and said that history will not pardon them for depriving her, Zulfkar Junior and Fatima Bhutto to have a last glimpse of late Nusrat Bhutto. She said in past dictator Ziaul Haq had deprived the family and close relatives of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto to see his face after he was hanged in jail. The present rulers have repeated the history and deprived the close family members of seeing Nusrat Bhuttos face, Ghinwa maintained.
