PESHAWAR - In order to foil any terror bid in the provincial metropolis on Eid-ul-Azha, the Peshawar city police have chalked out a major security plan, according to which special duties would be assigned to police personnel to ensure security of mosques and Imam Bargah.

Heavy contingents of police and Frontier Constabulary (FC) would be deployed on famous mosques, Imam Bargahs and other important public points so as to foil any untoward incident during the three days of Eid-ul-Azha.

Police officials said that around 5,000 troops would be deployed at different routes of Peshawar.

The policemen will perform duties on roads, busy shopping centres and other sensitive buildings during three days of Eid celebration.

Two to three police jawans would perform duty outside the big mosques of the city while police officials in plain cloths would also be deputed to keep close watch over suspected elements inside mosques during big congregations of Eid prayer.

During the three days of Eid, the city police would ensure security to citizens to peacefully celebrate the Eid.

Special duties have been assigned to city police while their holidays have been cancelled to perform duties on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.

Special focus would be given to parks where Eid festivities would be arranged.

These public parks include Colonel Sher Khan Stadium, Khalid Park, Bagh Naran and Tatara Park because people from the far-flung areas visiting these parks for enjoyment.

The police would also erecte road barriers on Main Saddar Road to check the entry of the suspected persons.

All the SHOs have been directed to perform actively in their respective areas and check vehicles thoroughly and make special focus on the movements of suspected persons.

The police high-ups would also be patrolling in their vehicles to review the security arrangements in the city.

The main entry points of Saddar and Cantonment would be closed for general traffic, as entry of vehicles to busy shopping centres would be banbed during Eid days.

Likewise, Qissa Khawani and Khyber Bazaar would also be blocked for general traffic aimed to foil any major terror activity.

It is to be mentioned here that in the wake of a possible operation in North Waziristan Agency, Peshawar could be again targeted by militants as they have warned the government to launch fresh attacks if they follow the US dictation regarding operation in North Waziristan Agency.
