Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and the world over observed Black Day today in protest against the illegal occupation of their land by India.

It was on this day in 1947 when Indian troops landed in Srinagar and forcibly occupied Jammu and Kashmir in total disregard to the partition plan and aspirations of the Kashmiris. Complete shutdown was observed in the Indian-held Kashmir on the call given by the All Parties Hurriyat Conference.

Protest demonstration against illegal Indian occupation and severe human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir was held at D-Square in Islamabad on Sunday.

People from various walks of life‚ including school children‚ participated in the demonstration and chanted slogans against Indian atrocities in Occupied Kashmir.

Speakers on this occasion called upon the international community to take notice of illegal Indian occupation and brutal atrocities on Kashmiri people.

In Lahore‚ the Forum for Kashmiris organized a seminar in connection with the Black Day. Speakers strongly condemned the illegal occupation of Kashmir by Indian forces. They condemned the brutalities against innocent Kashmiris‚ who are struggling for their right to self determination. Several other Kashmiri organizations also staged a rally outside the Lahore Press Club.

A lasting peace cannot be established in the region without resolving the Kashmir issue.
