PESHAWAR : In order to eradicate polio, over 754,000 children were vaccinated on Sunday in the provincial metropolis amid tight security arrangements.

The district administration had imposed section 144 in the city to ban pillion riding in order to avoid any untoward incident. During this one-day drive, a total of 754,000 children aged below five were vaccinated in 97 union councils in Peshawar. The drive was conducted by 4200 polio workers and volunteers. According to the health department, around 7000 security personnel were deployed to ensure security.

Owing to growing incidence of polio in Peshawar, various measures have been taken to contain the virus. However, during these campaigns, over a dozen polio workers and policemen have been killed in the province.
